We are proud of our reputation for having some of the highest-quality greens in the area. They are superb, fast and accurate, designed to USGA standards, and sand-based. We cut them to 2.8mm in the summer and 4.5mm in the winter, and they are constantly rolled and top-dressed to ensure the soil profile is consistently high. We only use the best top-quality fertilisers, wetting agents, and soil conditioners tailored to our exact specifications after conducting a detailed soil analysis to establish which nutrients are required. The greens were initially seeded with a bent/fescue mix. We now seed over twice a year with pure distinction creeping bentgrass, a very high-quality cultivar that creates an excellent putting surface, is consistent across all greens and is less susceptible to disease. The greens and tee boxes are regularly watered from the four computer-controlled sprinklers around each green.
Tees are also to USGA standards. They are regularly fertilised, top-dressed, and aerated to produce an excellent surface area. Tee areas are kept flat, and divots are repaired quickly. Prior to being a golf course, the land was used for farming and is therefore very fertile. We stripe our fairways and approaches with a diamond cut.
Our borehole irrigates the course regularly and fills the lakes, helping maintain high-quality fairway grass. We have invested heavily in drainage systems. Every fairway has lateral primary drainage; we sand band it as needed to supplement this. As a result, we do not need to play off mats in the winter or make temporary greens due to the adverse weather. Being a low-lying course and due to the quality of the greens, we are less susceptible to frost in the winter; this means we can keep the course open as much as possible. Last year, for example, we were only closed for play 10 days over Winter 2024/2025.
